Mission San Gabriel Arcángel Celebrates Its 253rd Anniversary With A Festival of Cultures Mission San Gabriel Arcángel will host a Festival of Cultures on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 10:00 pm on the Parish grounds located at 429 S. Junipero Serra Dr, San Gabriel, CA. This festival commemorates the 253rd anniversary of the establishment of the Mission and the tapestry of cultures that make up its community. The Festival of Cultures is a family event that includes music, games, multicultural food offerings, and shopping reflecting the English, Spanish, and Vietnamese-speaking communities of the San Gabriel Mission. “The festival is a bridge to building and celebrating our diversity as a gift,” said Reverence Paschal Amagba, CMF, Pastor. “Those before us have handed over this treasure, and it is our task to continue the stewardship of the Mission for generations to come.”
The Festival of Cultures is made possible by volunteers and the generosity of Golden Deli cuisine. The Le family, founders of the prestigious Golden Deli, arrived in Los Angeles from Vietnam in 1975. "Their connection to the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel comes two years later, when they became the first Vietnamese couple to be married at the Mission in a traditional Vietnamese ceremony," said Trien Van Do of Golden Deli. " Shortly after, they poured all their efforts into making their aspirations a reality, and Golden Deli was born.”
Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1771 and is the 4th of California’s historic Missions. The oldest church in Los Angeles County, Mission San Gabriel also hosts historic grounds, a newly curated museum, and gardens. After a fire that tragically damaged the historic Mission in July of 2020, it has reopened to the public offering self-guided tours Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a last admission time of 3:00pm.
